Spots, Spots Everywhere!

Poor little B3 is very unwell. She came home from school on Friday with a sore throat and a temperature. On Saturday she had a tummy ache and had no appetite. Sunday she just lay on the couch and watched TV. Monday she stayed home from school and it was about the same as Sunday but when it was time to have a shower.....spots, spots and more spots!

I made an appointment to see the doctor the next day but our regular GP only had one appointment left, 5.20pm. I took it but by this morning the spots had multiplied and now covered poor little B3 from her eyebrows to her toenails and even on the soles of her feet, the palms of her hands and inside her ears.

I rang the doctor and we went first thing this morning to see a different doctor who had a spot available. They took a throat swab and will let me know if it is Scarlet Fever, although they believe it probably isn't. There have been a few cases of this around Guernsey this year (my friend and her daughter being two of them).

At the moment our house is full. I have B1 and B2 home on the couch exhibiting very similar symptoms to B3's but no rash yet and Mr Bee is upstairs in bed. Mr Bee never gets sick and if he does he recovers very quickly. I have not seen him this sick for a very long time however he has managed to drag himself out of bed for a few slices of Honey and Lemon cake. I do what a lot of Mums do when the ones they love are unwell; I make them special little somethings to cheer them up :)

Every time Mr Bee sees B3 he sings at her, not too her, at her. The little ditty goes something like this:

Spot, Spot, stinky old Spot.
Smells like a wet dog and licks his butt!

B3 does not grace him with a response.......just the required eye-roll, just how Daddy likes it :)

Update: it was not Scarlet Fever but an unidentified, severe, viral rash; so in other words they don't know. The main thing is they are all fine now :)

Daffodil wall

Our daffodil wall is in full bloom.

It is not just daffodils; there are muscari inter-planted amongst them.

When their sunny yellow faces grace the footpath of Bumble Bee
Cottage it tells us that Spring is just around the corner.

The weather has left a bit to be desired of late so I made the most
of a bright spell and took a few snaps.

I think I love them so much because they don't grow very
successfully in Brisbane.

I saw this colour and planting combination in book and had to
have it in our garden.

Happy colours on dreary days.

There are daffodils bursting into bloom all over Guernsey.

Come on Spring we are ready and waiting!

Back in your Box!

Life is a funny old thing and the way people view you as an individual is even funnier.

I am nearly forty years old and I try very hard to be open minded. I try to have new interests, discuss new topics and try not to become stale in my world view. The world is constantly changing and I believe you need to change with it or be left behind in a muddle of confusion about what is going on around you. You can't be 'up' on everything but you can do your best; at least about important issues. What those issues happen to be will vary from individual to individual and is mainly dependent on their own view of the world.

My rediscovered interest in a greener and more environmentally friendly lifestyle has baffled a few people and has resulted in a few comments.

Just to let you know I don't like my box and I have now squashed it and recycled it :)

Earth Hour

This is one of the most effective advertisements I have seen in a very long time.

It is funny and to the point and best of all gave me a really good laugh when I needed one :)

It also made me incredibly home sick :(

Book - Depletion and Abundance

In my quest to understand the full implications of a variety of environmental topics I have come across this book by Sharon Astyk.

Sharon's views are quite extreme; that is not to say they are incorrect, just extreme.

She has some very useful tips and makes many valid points about peak oil, climate change and the manner in which these two things are possibly going to effect our modern way of life.

I found this book quite disturbing to read but perhaps that is a good thing as it made me think about preparedness and my general lack of it if the world did go to pot.

I think I would rather be prepared and have nothing happen than to ignore the signs and not be able to take care of my family.

Would I recommended this book? I think I would but I believe it needs to be read in conjunction with other books on this topic.
